  • marching is important but i think i like seeing the bands battle in the stands more....2'...
  • People put so much emphasis on 5th nowadays...its ridiculous....You dont spend 4 or 5 weeks during band camp waking up early in the morning exercising because of 5ths....you dont spend countless days learning a t-box or ttr for a 5th...you don't spend hours getting the lift right on your 90's for a 5th....I look at a 5th like icing on the cake.....I love a 5th quarter but how can Band A say they blew out Band B when they sucked on the field?thats not a blowout....blowout is ALL aspects...it's like half time is dying in some folks eyes....When in fact everyone stays for halftime...everyone doesn't stay for a 5th....that's why I respect bands that can continuously put on a great show and still provide the icing on the cake if there is one...its like people are putting the thing you work so hard doing on the back burner for something that aint guaranteed...does it make you feel used when you think about it or do you even care?

    real talk
  • i hate to say this but the reply above is the reason why we have so many "STAND BANDS".any1 can sit in one spot and blow, blow blow.but it takes skill and dedication to march and play and might i add do it with some pride.most hbcu's have transformed themselves into these "stand bands"to try and gain respect and spend about 75% of their time on stand music instead of putting together a descent show."HBCU BANDS WERE BUILT ON HALFTIME SHOWS.OUR CREATIVE SHOWS ALONG WITH UP-TO-DATE DANCE MOVES MADE US WHAT WE ARE."NOT 5TH QUARTERS OR ZERO QUARTERS.i've actually seen ppl get up and use the restroom or go to the concession stands during halftime at some games.
  • See greg I can respect this...in your days yeah the jukebox cracked heads in the 5th or stands..but yall killed on the field. aint nothing like housing out at your opponents own home crowd I bet you can attest to to thatgreg said:

Which weighs more halftime or fifth in your opinion?
just trying to see where some of you guys heads are on this subject?I'll say my comment later
  • For me, its halftime.

There are so many things that you can display in 8 minutes on the field (precision, technique, funk, sound quality, marching style, dance routines, creativity, quality of arrangements, drill execution, etc. etc.).

Watching and listening to two bands duke it out in the stands in fun and entertaining, but seeing a good halftime show executed well from start to finish is even better.
  • Halftime is good and all but i enjoy and perfer the 5th way more. Drills and dance routines a fun to look at but their getting kind of dull to watch. I mean, im not taking any credit from any bands but the drills to me are just really repetitve. But, in the fifth or zero you honestly don't know what to expect.
  • this is the reason why i said the stands.....i love a good halftime show to.....and i never count it out, but the only bands that really do it for me on the field is FAMU and BCU....im getting tired of bands bringing the fat girls out....smh...thats why i said marching is important, but it is kinda like seeing the same thing over and over again...2's...

  • I couldnt watch a FAMU halftime, after most of the clips i saw of them all they do is dance. They dont drill
  • could it be said that the reason shows look "repetitive" is because folks don't put their all in a show.....but go for the "gusto" in the stands?

  • and another thing that is not the same is that BANDS DO NOT MARCH LIKE THEY USED TO.....look at some old clips on youtube that TAPEMASTER posted....any band that can march like that will always hold my attention.....JSU and especially SU are the only 2 i look forward to seeing on the field, but most of the band's time is spent in the stands....only 8 minutes on the field....2's....
