yall might think that I'm being bias because I went to SU, but SU's tuba section is a beast if ya'll actually pay attention to what they play and the technique they play with you would understand
Fanfares, blend with the band, showcases, it's hard to say! A lot of times people will not pay attention to a section if it blends with the band's sound! The same goes for a section that rocks a lot of fanfares. Most will judge a section the best if they:
Play High
Play Loud
Play "Lows"(never understood that)
Dance(not gonna touch that!)
I think you should evaluate a bass section on the following:
The Tone(no splats in the upper register, you can hear the low note not just a growl)
Articulation
Demonstrated Range(a combo of the first two)
Style elements within the music
Blend with the rest of the band(every song isn't a bass solo)
If a section is doing those things I mentioned then they are good and probally the best!
Replies
Whales - they had close to 50 tubas, wow man. Sound is always good
P phi Funk - Small but always pushin man. Mad props all the time
ASU - Best section in their band. Sounds nice and round (especially take a bow)
