Why does the NFL feel so compelled to have black college bands liven up
the halftime atmosphere of its most prestigious games, yet the networks
feel less than enthused about showing them on air? It’s not a complaint
as much as it is a legitimate question, especially when you consider
that the bands are clearly audible during halftime interviews and
clearly being enjoyed by the live crowd.
I THINK DA PROBLEM IS DAT ALL DAT NETWORK TV CARE ABOUT IS RATINGS N MONEY. DATZ Y I DO HAV2 SHO SUM LUV 2 ESPN 4 GETTING DA MESSAGE OUT THERE. BECAUSE HBCU BANDS CAN DRAW CROWDS N ATTENDANCE. NBC IS PROBABLY DA ONLY NETWORK DAT I'VE SEEN DAT AT LEAST TRY2 MAKE N EFFORT 2 SHOW DAT HEY HBCU'S R JUS AS EXCITING AS MOST OF DA MAJOR UNIVERSITIES N COLLEGES N DA COUNTRY. BUT 2 ME IT ISN'T ENUFF. BUT HEY DATZ CORPORATE AMERICA 4U. IT Z ALL ABOUT DA BENJAMINS!!!!
this is kind of a dumb question..we get all the big time performances. the NFL has to play ads for sponsers and such..how many people do you think are watching a NFL game to see a college band perform? ill wait..
you have to factor during BCU's performance at the pro bowl, they were interviewing Peyton Manning and Drew Brees about the Super Bowl.
the bands are there for entertainment purposes for people at the game. but while during halftime, fox and espn go over recaps of the half for the people at home and NFL fans that don't really care about marching bands would rather see highlights and analysis about the game as opposed to some band doing a dance routine lol
The NFL and television networks are not the same. I'm sure if the NFL owned their own networks, bands would get a spotlight on tv. But the average football fan turns to ESPN for sports, not band. Be happy that they invite HBCU bands at all...
I agree with the last few comments....major networks have soo many different entities that have them doing everything BUt showing black college bands on tv. theres sooo many sponsers that want their add ran at a certain time,.theres so many interviews, halftime analysis...etc
AND IF YOU REALLY THINK ABOUT IT...NCAA DIVISION 1-A BANDS ARE NOT REALLY SHOWCASED ON TELEVISION DURING HALFTIME EITHER...UNTIL THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. AND WHEN U LOOK AT THE COVERAGE OF THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP HALFTIME COMPARED TO COVERAGE OF THE BAYOU CLASSIC HALFTIME...I THINK THE BAYOU CLASSIC GETS WAY MORE EXPOSURE AND TIME...SO I THINK WE SHOULD BE GRATEFUL...LOL
exactly..the only time you'll see a SEC,ACC,Big 12(etc.) marching band's performance is during the BCS bowl games. they dont even show the halftimes for the lower bowls like the Sun Bowl or Gator Bowl, but everytime there is a HBCU game on TV they show halftime shows, no matter who is playing or what game

Why Does Network Television Ignore Black College Marching Bands?
Why does the NFL feel so compelled to have black college bands liven up

feel…
The only uninterrupted TV time bands ever get is in the big parades (Macy's, Rose Bowl, etc.), which is STILL really short.
As much as WE love bands, they won't pay for TV time like commercials and highlights. If you notice, when they DO show halftime, it'll be sponsored and you'll see the logo somewhere on the screen (State Farm Halftime Show, McDonald's "Battle of the Bands". TV people wantS dey money...lol...
Halftimes are not usually broadcasted because the corporate sponsors usually sponsor the halftime reports for the network. Im sure if a HBCU Band had someone with enough money to sponsor the broadcast, they would show it.
