Why most of the swac bands small this year?

From txsu, pvu, uapb, valley,a&m are all small this year I wonder why..I believe talledega the "swac rejects" are taking everybody from the swac. Its not point for that band if they only do parades and botbs..I say by next year people will realize that band is a joke and there not going to get put in the swac because the population of the skool too small so the people in that band should head back to the swac.

  • UAPB changed from open enrollment, so ppl couldn't get in based on grades and ACT scores

  • It has nothing to do with Talledega. PV just has trouble recruiting folks I guess, TXSU has been small for a while, UAPB hasn't exactly been big in recent years, Valley is bigger, and AAMU just changed BDs.

  • Yea people would leave one school to go back to another school because of a band that's not necessarily a joke....the logic of you people....

  • Have you not noticed the small high school bands especially in Texas?  Its just a matter of time before the entire SWAC is hit.  Its going to take a collaborative effort or soon JSU and SU will be the only HBCU bands marching over 100.  That aint no fun.

Its not about Talladega taking anybody from these schools.

  • First of all, there are no "swac rejects" at Talladega... Most of the bds at the previous schools that some of us attended before coming to Talladega would Looove to have us in their band still.. Everyone thats from the swac in the band plays a very essential part.. by far from rejects.. Honestly, just a bunch of folks who did their few years at a swac school but weren't focused on anything other than the turn up and band.. lol gotta have the haters though...
  • orrrr got kicked out for other reasons... or just couldnt afford to keep paying tuition at whatever school they were at.. everyone who transferred here has there own story....
  • their*
  • Well if Talladega isn't having recruitment issues than what does that say about those other programs ?? To be honest all of those scholls mentioned should be looking in hiring Mr. Bonds who has created a band at a school with no history of a program ever! Don't You Think ??

  • operation band

  • Everyone doesn't have the  same issues across the board. The most common issues are a low band/recruitment budget, poor budgeting by band staff, high out of state fees, higher admission requirements, no recent/relevant band activity( nobody wants to march in a "has been" band), the major curriculums aren't up to par compared to other schools, lack of local feeder programs, HAZING, uncooperative administration, bad publicity, and a negative loop. What I mean by negative loop is you need funds to recruit and grow your program but to get the funds you need a certain enrollment that you're currently lacking. These can be devastating to even the best band and usually are caused easily but not so easily fixed.
