SHREVEPORT – Southern University’s famed Marching “Jukebox” Band and The World Famed Tiger Marching Band have beeninvited to participate in the inaugural Yale University Battle of the Bands to be held inApril of 2009 at the New Haven, Conn., school.Other schools to participate include Florida A&MUniversity and Howard University. The event will include the band competition alongwith a workshop for area high school marching bands.Yale will provide all expenses for the bands during their April 18-20 stay.The bands will compete at Yale University for a grand prize of $1,000 and the title ofYale Band of the Year. The event is sponsored by a partnership between Yale’s BlackMen’s Union and its’ Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

yall better be glad they supporting hbcu bands!!!!! and that will be chump change for su gsu an famu!!! no matter what school. But for most bands who dont even go to every game due to MONEY issues would gladly take that check.
1. Considering that they are paying for the entire trip for the bands, I don't think too many bands would complain.
2. I still don't know if this a full band deal or just pep bands.
WOW in New Haven! LOL I used to live in Connecticut and all I have to say is it will be EXTREME culture shock. They are not used to bands like that in fact they're barely used to Marching Band At All! It would be cool to see High Step bands expand to Connecticut though the snow will kill practice.
It could still be pep bands, because we did a field show in Los Angeles last year and in Wisconsin with the pep band. If it is the full marching bands, they might have to ask FAMU to leave a few members behind.
