It is with a heavy heart that we announce the home going of Shirley Middleton Blakely from complications with Alzheimers. Not only was she notable for being the first Director of the J-Settes but also had the foresight to abandon the batons and switch solely to dance. The JSU band program (J-Settes and Sonic Boom) vow to always uplift her legacy. You will forever remain immortal through your many contributions to our history.

Just the best! Shirley Hall Middleton Blakely was a majorette at JSU in the late 60s/early 70s, a legendary leader, and developer of young women.
