It's called Juncanoo. It's pretty much exactly the same as Reggae Music and Jamaican samba.....which gave rise to Soca music and has elements in and of salsa, merenque, etc. Second line music is the extension of West African rhtyhms (the shuffle on the snare and patterns on the bass drum) and horns. They are well....related and in some cases undistinguishable. The music of the African diaspora. Jazz in it's oldest form was a universal thing. Not just a sometihng in New Orleans. The WAY it was done in New Orleans spread faster becauase of the presence of horns.
