  • @ TPHUNK4life Amen brother and your welcome, And thank you for being open minded enough to understand and see the big picture of our community and how it affects our personalities on and off or horns.
  • Bruh, I get EXACTLY where you're coming from. I appreciate how articulately you conveyed your position and to be honest, that's a KEY (not the only, but key nonetheless) factor as to why MANY bands that are in low income areas tend to overblow, disregard tuning issues/dynamics, etc. because cats are just trying to take their mind off of whatever else is going on and disregard nuances.

...But that's a starting point. I mean we can start there, but that can't be our end goal or satisfy our musical appetite. I PERSONALLY believe that this element of intensity has it's place in the musical realm, but is an extreme and therefore should NOT be the norm in our playing. Thank you for expressing that point man. Most people aren't REALLY thinking about why alot bands play the way they do in order to improve the situation. They'll just complain and say "Ya'll weak/lame/etc." (not helping the situation) Like I said, I hear you and it's a common problem... ESPECIALLY in our community. So you're right, Detroit is not alone, but we WILL overcome this situation. Thanks for your post brother because it is related to band.

  • I just had to Put this up I kno that it has nothen to do with Band but, Alot of people dont understand Us Detroiters. They dont understand Why we play with so much intensity, power, passion, drive, and how unconventional we are with our approach to this whole marching band thing. Music to us is a release, escape, from the reality of our situations. This is what i see everyday I wake up and walk down the street, or around the corner to the store, with people that fits the profile of the visible appearance of My Hood. This is my reality!! So some time when I'm sitting on my porch I get so upset at the situation I'm in and pick up my horn and BLOW THE PISS OUT OF IT!!! Detroit is filled with people like this in situations like this and we get together and release together. Yes sometimes true musicianship goes out the door but hey We're just happy to be here today.. Alive. So I thought I should share this with my counter parts so you can understand just alittle bout me and the City I'm from, And the Musicians. The reason Y DICB is the way it is, Osborn, the way we where, And how Passionate I am about making a better life not only for myself, but my family, City, and Hood...

S/N not everybody for Detroit lives like this, And I'm not trying to make it seem like Detroit is the only Hood city!! Nor am I trying to degrade my City, I just want people to Understand That when it comes to Band in Detroit, Its more than music, Its a Life savor, stress reliever, and Escape!! OK Thank yall
