Doc was saying that he was Knighten's high school band director and that Knighten would often compete in festivals. He said Knighten placed 2nd in a competion in Dallas. Doc asked why he didn't place first and Knighten replied " Doc I didn't mess up at all. That boy (referring to the boy he lost to) has been playing piano since he was 4 and I've been playing since I was 14. He should've won. " Doc asked Knighten if he did his best and Knighten replied yes sir. Finally Doc said that was all I asked of you.
