@Book: I feel u bruh.lol. I do video work as well, but at weddings and things like that.
@BOXSINFONIAN1898 That really is a long ass clip.lol. You right about having to see what else is out there tho. Katrina was a lot of N.O. people's first time out of the city, so they don't really know what else it out there. I don't blame them tho, because it is the job of the band director to bring it to them anyway. I haven't been trying to say that St. Aug is hands down the best ever, but that they CAN compete. I noticed the snare bias too as I was watching the clips tho. I wish there was video footage of "Ribbet." I have audio for that cadence and the rest of the line stands out as well, u even get a lil "story" to it.lol. I can respect ur opinion tho, because it is true for a lot of N.O. d-lines. U practically hear the same dry sounding cadence all day between the songs. I think St. Aug is the only one that plays a different cadence every time.
To piggyback off Blak....I just watched that long clip of St. Aug.....precession is hands down the best thing of this clip....I couldn't count over 10 BASIC rudiments out the clips....what Blak is saying is that you can't think that your the best until you see what else is out there...and if you can't do or play it then your not the best.....On another note lookn at that clip is that N.O. drumline cadences dont have no story to it...they are really biased to the snares cuz the bass and tenor plays the same thing over and over again...its a drumline...not a 8 minute snare blast to a beat....but PRECESSION WAS ON POINT!!!...AND WAS CLEAN...
A'ight Blak, I can agree with that. The N.O. does need a lot of refreshing right now. It will get better with time tho....and no more natural disasters. We also need more bands like the roots of music to give the kids a jump start. We gon get there tho. This particular performance could have been really good if they cleaned it up. Judging by the dropped sticks, they probably didn't spend enough time on it, which is why I gave the Houston line the W. Though boring, it was clean and precise. Wasn't the greatest, but it got the job done.
ok LC, yea the Lone Star Choppaz are shittin on everybody, and im glad to be a part of it......im the only new orleans nigga to ever get invited to play with the choppaz, and im sayin that to say this......before i came to houston i had the same mentallity these kids have, but once a nigga from houston damn near smoked me cause i had no knowledge of the rudiments that they were playin i had to get with the program....now it was 3 lone star choppaz on the houston snare line and they are a beast....now true that every drumline in da H is on our level, but they are damn near close......so im just sayin all out that new orleans needs a wake up call.....and as for houston playin the same thing as last time.....i would rather play somethin old and clean istead of somethin new and dirty and thats just new orleans did....
I agree with everything you said Book. I just couldn't get with Blak saying that no N.O. line could EVER do what a Houston line can. Thanks for that clip of the Aug tho. I had used them as my main example because they don't dance at all. They have ALWAYS been about precision. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they are the only line that plays a different cadence between each song in a parade. I gotta attach the 2nd part of that clip u just put up tho. I had almost forgotten about those clips.
No Doubt we had great bands, but it's not something that can save what we have now.
That particular drum section was filled with folks who are the past present and future of N.O. ..
I love nostalgia and Tradition. but there are things that have remained the same for years. Things that need to be changed. Generally to enhance the skill level of younger students..
Black knows what he's talking about ... it's Knowledge of Precision surrounding percussion rather rather than the skill itself... you can be the swiftest and fasted drummer around, but if you can't write out or break down what you just played to someone else, you're not good at all.
as for Dancing and.. that's secondary. its for Flash and Flare. Entertainment purposes.., Routine.
Back to N.O's All Star section.. They came with something better than last year which was great. I loved it. could have been cleaner.. (both sections) but over all.. yeah.. I enjoyed N.O just as much as i enjoyed Houston's
@BlakDaBeast The Lone Star Choppaz were straight MONSTAZ, but u can't expect me to believe that every d-line in Houston is on that level. The LSC are shittin on some college d-lines based on what i just saw. I only used thundercats as an example because it's better than what THIS houston d-line did. They were boring. I'm not gon say the Aug d-line can run through ANYBODY up there. But they could've held their own with this one. I can respect your opinion, but in mine, the N.O. CAN deal with some of the Houston lines. They do need to step out of their comfort zones tho. I definitely agree with ur statement about the bands as a whole too. Nobody can touch us in that aspect...at least in the stands.lol.
