Marcus you a fool for that Percussion comment.....we all know how yall feel about that shit...NO COMMENT!!!...But all we (me & PVSax99) is saying is that PV was founded for being different, so don't be scared to still be different....PINE BLUFF is a band program similiar to ours and they haven't changed that much about their program....and is still ranked higher than us by these bandheads....thats all it really is in a nutshell...Dont try to hurry and change something when it was working so well for the longest...but do yo thang my nigga cuz Im retired and about to grad....
Yes...change does happen. But what people see changing (fans and alumni) is that fact that PV is conforming to what is branded as a typical SWAC band. I guess it's been happening for a long while (seeing that PV is a SWAC school). WHY!? It used to be refreshing to see something different from someone every now and then.
PV sound has become way more edgy and aggressive in the stands...moreso than I have ever heard. But so what!? 9 other SWAC bands are probably just as edgy and aggressive...if not more. Nobody is saying that it sounds bad (PV rarely sounds bad). But what PV is doing now, IMO, has been done before. I guess that's what they call "conforming with the times". Can't make a claim to greatness by conforming.
But continue doing what you do. PV still has my support. It may be support as criticism and ideas (that's the support that's given by most alumni anyway)...but that's not important. What's important is what you do with that support. And brushing folks off by telling them "times change...DEAL WITH IT" is only going to further alienate you from the folks who may WANT to support you.
Now I've marched under Prof ED and now im marching under Prof McQueen... and the beast mode chant started in 2008 while PROF ED WAS HERE!! and 2010 is a much cleaner year than 2008... so i just dont understand what ya'll are spittin.. Larrion we both marched together bro.. i hear what you are sayin...lol.. but what I dont understand is why are people so shocked that we are taking somewhat of a different approach when it has been a goal to put an edge in the sound since 2005!! hell prof ED would be at the game sayin BLOW/BDA.. I had a good relationship with Prof ED, Ive spoken with him on various occasions about the band.. I spoke to him about 3 days before he passed.. I know what direction he wanted to take the band... thats why im sayin that this is nothing new.. things change folks GET OVER IT!! the band is moving forward.. it was a time when PV wasnt even considered as a contender in the stands, not because of sound but because at that time playing in the stands wasnt important to Prof ED... in his eyes PV wins their battles on the Field.. many of ya'll want us to go back to the sound of 2004... but news flash.. the instrumentation is completely different... and according to Prof that wasnt his best band 89 was... although both were outstanding.. but at the end of the day the Storm is still the Storm and will forever be THE STORM.. it may not be the same Storm that you are use to but none the less we are still MARCHING STORM! We still get the crowd to their feet, every game, Percussion is still rockin, Band still has a Good Sound/with more bite... Everybody is trying to focus on the negative when there is so much positive to look at... It took some time for Prof ED to perfect the bands sound.. It doesnt happen over night.. this has been a work in progress for some time.. not something we just started to do when Prof ED passed... the sound is not Perfect to OUR STANDARDS but it is not Bad by any means.. it just needs some work.. I respect Alumni thats why i never really comment when you guys criticize, but sometimes folks... BANDHEAD.ORG is not the place.. smh.. i hope i didnt disrespect anyone.. but the band is gone move forward with your support or without it... shiid.. Im Going to London in 2012.. my last performance with the Storm.. you guys should be proud.. we doin it for ya'll.. and for tha haters...lol..
@PVSax99....What do you expect our future (or not) band suppose to sound like if you don't have your vintage player (Prof. Ed), you can't expect the band to want to sound better or live off the legacy because they killing it inside the program...I don't even claim myself as an alumni because I walked into one practice and yall was screaming out "Beast mode" and was doing stuff that Prof Ed would have ran in and ended practice from how yall sound. Either yall can give the older band heads/ alumni/ and band heads that vintage sound like Prof Ed was there or sound like BEAST SH!T like yo other directors want.....THE FUTURE RELIES ON YALL YOUNG BUCKS.....Hope yall make the right decision...
txsu's 18 consistantly kicks cowtown's 25-28 each year....and dats real....pv's trumpet section=3-4 screamers on the front row and a couple of 1 noters
honestly.. i just dont know what to say anymore.. some of these people take our clips sooooo serious as to where they have to make it to each and every one to say some BS... when an allstar band sounds better than your own band... worry about improving your own program... i mean i understand every once in a while you want to talk a lil smack.. but year in and year out.. C'MON SON.. simply pathetic and LAME! get off our tip.. get your numbers up, improve your sound quality, build up a good rep outside of the SWAC for your school and your band... and to the dude who said something about our trumpets... bro c'mon.. you play trumpet for TxSU... enuff said... keep it playa folks..
