  • @js619: Ok, i'm 20, but i do have an ear for good music i.e. i'm old school...lol....I know all about Jennifer Holliday...she's one of my favorite vocalists...she sings with power out of this world....unfortunately the dreamgirls play was never released on vhs or dvd, so it's nearly impossible to find footage...i do have jennifer holliday's performance of that song tho...it's one of the only performances from anybody that ever gave me chills.
  • @LC           when the 1982/1983 Marching 100 did "AND I AM TELLING YOU"  it was taken from the original Broadway show of "DREAMGIRLS" starring Jennifer Holliday which was popular and still active on Broadway and touring.....................when the play was finally turned into a movie(POST KATRINA) the song again became popular and was once again a marching band staple
  • Right...i know the 80's band were the best ever, but they were still good in the early 90's as well even without drilling, when Herb was still BD....SMA used to be one of the big dogs...I do need to find some footage of them drilling tho....that's something we may not ever see them do again...
  • You were little in the early 90s, I'm talking about 88 SMA (87 was really good too). They were the total package. If I'm not mistaken, they even did a Saints halftime show before. It was either that 87 or 88 school year.

I don't know if any of those early 90's SMA groups had the opportunity to do any halftime shows/drills. They made up for it though by drilling holes in other bands ears and chest by taking other bands hearts. No band could just roll up on those girls they were fearless. It was either prepare to battle, or just prepare to get dealt with. Simple.

  • Yea, I know SMA used to be really good when i was little...Fortier too...Man, i gotta find the footage!!!
  • prolly Que and tapemaster. It was a classic BOTB b/c EVERYBODY there was drilling, that included: JFK, 35, Fortier, and SMA....yes I said SMA. That was their debut as far as drilling went, and straight up, Dem guls was drilling holes in the ground at Tad Gormley.
  • There is a clip of dragnet on youtube tho. I wonder if it was from the same show....
  • Man, I wish i had that footage, but that was before my time. I was born in 90.lol. I can tell that was a legendary show just by the song selection. I wonder if Tapemaster, Book, or Que has it....
  • LC,

The audio clip was the 87-88 band. Thlis clip is from the Aug vs 35 game sep. 82, The 87-88 band played it again at the BOTB at Gormley, they played "I'm In Love", "Tribute To Bob Marley", "Dragnet", "The Way You Make Me Feel", and closed it out w/ "I'm Telling You". If you don't have that footage, then you're really missing out on a great show.

  • @AUGNATION87: Really? That's awesome....yea kudos to John Payne and A.J. Bell...
