shout out to solomon grundy! and the crab class of 98. PV, in my opinion thought they were so big in numbers, that they could do whatever they wanted. every band has always backed up and let us off the field. we had problems with FAMU doing the same thing in 2001. but eventually they backed up. i guess that day PV said F**K southern. we got more people! and in the end this is what happened.Like Doc said if they wouldve backed up, this wouldnt have happened. why are you on the sidelines on the white out of bounds line when the other band is still on the field anyway?! thats was poor judgement from the staff at PV. and thats who should be ashamed of themselves. because they ruined the band program that day. because we tore all of those new horns to pieces. there should always be respect for the fellow band in all programs. no matter how big or small. and i ve talked to plenty of frat and other bandsmen from PV and they said the same thing.
I have watched the Human jukebox from the sidelines for 7 years and i have always witnessed the other bands huddled up on the perimeter white part of the sideline when the band marches off of the field and always that band that is waiting have to scramble to get out of the way. Within those seven years I just kept hoping that there would not be a collision of some kind. Now anyone knows, that when you stand on that white line you have to move out of the way for the band to get off. Now from what i heard PV refused to move which is very disrespectful. I would be the same way vice versa. No matter what band is coming off of the field you have to give that band respect and move out of the way.
i see that they changed their attitude after this incident.southern has been exiting the field like this since doc has been the band director. and we still exit the field that way 2day and why hasnt this happened since.an azzwhippin will help u to change a lot
TAPEMASTER, I am usually grateful for all of the old school footage you post. However, I must admit Big Dog, this is probably one all HBCUs and the black community would rather not be reminded of. I remember I was in Seattle with Grambling when this happened, and the people were looking at us as if we were a bunch of thugs, because of what was being seen on the television. This was a very dark day in HBCU history.
