  those horn play better back then we still have a few in storage but we only bring them out for proven players. they are made better the new horns we have now.

  They are called upright bell trumpets...Yamaha, Bach, and a few other manufacturers make those...

  We have a couple of trumpet players on this website, so they could give you better insight than me. I know we've used them for years, and I think FAMU and Norfolk uses them.

  Thanks, thats interesting, I had assumed that the trumpet players had a problem holding their horns up when playing and that maybe it was a better brand of trumpet not commonly used.

  A lot of our trumpet players say they are much harder to get sound from than horns with a regular bell.

  I'm not sure of the technical name, but we call them Dizzy Gillespie-style trumpets.
