Why are SU & JSU considered the top bands in the SWAC AND why are their mistakes looked over?

Why is that so? Both bands make just as many mistakes as other bands, if not more; but becaues of yall HISTORY, volume, or so called "beastin" arrangement; band members claim it doesnt count for said bands but both group's members attack other bands when they make a few mistakes.

    SU & JSU does the forbidden. Many band directors aren't going to let their bands play wide open like those bands do so that's why people like them so much, people tend to flock to entities with aggressive mentalities. Mind you JSU didn't get as aggressive as they are until 2000.

    I feel ya on the mistake thing, nothing is said about it but when anyone else makes mistakes it's posted time and time again. It's a lot of double standards going on.

    Their mistakes are NEVER OVERLOOKED not even by their own bandsmen. its just that when they come on forums like this one they have to defend their own bands..

    I disagree. I've heard it with my own ears, Bayou Classic 07 to be exact. SU's trumpets hanging over but some of the players longer than others: some peeps in the crowd right behind me as i stood in the middle of both bands saying man their killing even hearing the wrong pitches and i think everyone has to defend their own bands no one is special LMAO

    Man i'm speaking what i feel, it probably doesn't sit well with you well but that's understandable because you marched in SU's band and you may feel that you all don't do things out of the ordinary or forbidden. When i say forbidden i mean screaming, baritones playing high b flats a lot, wide open on whole and half notes etc. Many directors won't allow most of those things but that's SU's style and many like it because those things aren't acceptable by many directors. Example: A kid has common sense not to turn up their music very loud while their parents are around but when the parents are gone, up goes the loud music. The kids are simply doing what isn't accepted by many parents. I'm just a realist, will say what i feel and if someone feels me then so be it and if they don't so be it.

    I'm going all the way to high school band:

    Band director never allowed the band to just play loud on a whole or half note, if we had a whole note we better add an Sforzonda to that mf lol.

    Screaming wasn't allowed though many had the range but going beyond a high C to D wasn't accepted.

    Exactly! I understand the forbidden part RJ somewhat....cause I was doing the same things in HS, but to say nothing is said about someone's mistakes is stretching the truth to the max.....
