District 15-A of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge,  Free and Accepted Masons of Texas, through its annual Bayou City Challenge  Drumline Competition, has awarded over $30,000 in cash and prizes over the  past 6 years to elementary, middle, and high school drumlines.  The purpose of  the competition is twofold; one: to showcase percussion talent in the Bayou City ... and surrounding areas, and to raise money for District 15-A Scholarship  Competition, where up to 12 graduating high school seniors come together  and vie for tuition assistance through an essay writing competition.   The winner of this competition advances to the state level competition in  June of each year to compete with graduating seniors from around the  state for a chance at more scholarship awards.
