teach yourself. Go to a music store and get Essential Elements book. Trumpet will by easier to learn first because you already read in the key of Bb. LEarn your first few notes and one scale at a time. You should be performance ready in about a month. Beastin in about a year. After that you can switch to mellophone

Switching from a Woodwind to a Brass .
My major instrument is Clarinet .
I want to learn how to play mellophone or trumpet as my minor instrument,
BUT my band director isn't gonna teach me…
I agree,Teach yourself, I taught myself how to play the trumpet in 9th grade and my main instrument is the saxophone, it might be a little hard but you have to put alot of effort into it to actually get good... i play trumpet in marching band and jazz band bt i play sax in symphonic band
Honestly, Woodwinds are NEEDED within college bands, so your director not allowing you to switch is a good thing for "music" yet it may not make you happy. Get some of your friends who play the horn to show you the "hot cross buns" so to speak (lol) from there you'll figure it out..

Im not shocked that he didnt want you to change but I would be shocked if he didnt want you to learn. I taught myself baritone cuz there was one laying around (actually it was a valve trombone)
what type of person would leave a valve trombone laying around, if i saw one, id take that thing

I never understood why they had one of those things there with an almost non existent band program but thats how I learned baritone. It wasnt just laying around but our band director at the time was just babysitting and we basically had free reign of the band hall (when It wasnt being used by special ed). Our band instruments were spread all across east houston pawn shops. I switched between the 2 when other baritone players would/would not show up
