  • im having a art show in this building for p 2 in 2010 aint that something
  • When I was a pup (mid 80's), A.J. Bell was far and away the best Jr. High Marching Band in the city. Although we may have called them "Baby St. Aug", Bell earned the respect to be properly referred to by their own name. They were a Jr. High but they played at an advanced level which enabled them to beat out Sr. High Schools in the city. Pound for pound, they could hold their own against anybody. Football, concert or parade season. It's a shame that there isn't any documentation or clips of this school in action anywhere to be found.

  • WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IM ON THAT PICTURE
  • hey Bruce
i told BELL & ST AUG LEGEND "FLEE"that as good as BELL WAS n the 1970s----THEY WERE NOT ON ST AUG NOR Mc#35's LEVEL !!! PERIOD..

    "END OF STORY" !!!!

YEAH THEY DEALT WITH A FEW LOCAL HIGH SCHOOLS AND MANY OUT-OF-TOWN HIGH SCHOOLS !!

YES,BOTH BELL & HARRIS-led WOODSON BANDS COULD REPRESENT NOLA BACK N the 1970s IF A HS BAND WAS NOT AVAILABLE !!!

BUT NOBODY TOUCHED THE 1970s MARCHING 100..

THOSE WERE THE GREATEST GROUPS OF ST AUG MUSICIANS N MARCHING 100 HISTORY !!!!!

AS GOOD AS ST AUG AND '#35 bands were n the 1980s and 1990s...............they were NOT THE '70s EDITIONS !!!!

ALL RESPECT TO U BAND MEMBERS THAT UPHELD THE NOLA MARCHING BAND LEGACIES.................BUT THERE ARE FIELDSHOWS AND MUSIC THAT U DUDES AND CHICKS NEVER DUPLICATED....

.REALLY THE THING TRICKLED DOWN CUZ THE 1970s were the BEST ERA FOR ALL NOLA BANDS ON ALL LEVELS DOWN TO ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS !!!!

The dudes from the '70s AUG are LEGENDS !!!!!

NOBODY SWITCHED SCHOOLS,nobody left bands..all the bands and schools had their own UNIQUE STYLE....................

There was a junior high school that did a show or two and played a song or two arranged for AUG by WATKINS !!! WHO WAS THAT SCHOOL ????

    AJ BELL,thats the name !!!!

Thats where the nickname and comparisons started....Meathead drilled bcuz the BEST HS BAND N THE WORLD DRILLED and that was ST AUG too !!!

So if u want to ignore the obvious,,,,continue to do so...
Remember I was there w/alot of Crusaders turned Purple Knights from 1974-1979..

Bell was NOT THE ONLY BREEDER SCHOOL..So were: Woodson,Kohn,Lawless,Fredericks,Phillips then Gregory,Capdau,Colton and the many Catholic Elementary schools..

St.Aug never had ALL the best musicians but were the BEST group w/the BEST & MOST ORIGINAL MUSIC TEACHER/BAND DIRECTOR AND THE BEST ARRANGER !!!!

The best and most recognized FORMER AUG professional musicians DID NOT ATTEND BELL NOR WOODSON !!!!

Finally,MEATHEAD surpassed HARRIS as the BEST jr.hi/middle school director....

But Meatheads best bands were no match for the Marching 100...Nor were they better than the 1970s Harris Mc#35 bands !!!!

Now had they outdrilled, outmarched and outplayed ST AUG & '35 on THE FOOTBALL FIELD AND PARADE SEASON & CONVENTIONS ETC.................

It DID NOT HAPPEN IN MY ERA !!!!!!!!!!!!

    Much Love and Respect
