  Loudness and overblowing can overshadow the music and the textures that might be there. And too much of a repetitive pattern from arrangement to arrangement makes the music boring after a while. Jackson State, on the other hand, manages to come across with music that is lyrical and that has more color. The trumpets need to come through more. Good job from both bands overall. Southern's first half of the 5th was better than the last half.
